Egyptský faraón versus chetitský král - Postavení panovníka v orientální despocii

Publikace se zaměřuje na starověkou právní úpravu. Nezabývá se však tradičním a oblíbeným římským právem, ale směřuje svůj zájem hlouběji do historie, až do období prvních civilizací, přičemž z pestré škály těchto prvních státních útvarů vybírá dva, a to Egypt a chetitskou říši. Ústředním tématem je zde vladař těchto státních útvarů, tedy osoba stojící na samém vrcholu mocenské struktury. Egyptský král byl vybrán coby typický představitel orientálního despoty, neboť minimálně v oficiálně proklamované rovině naplňuje jeho osoba vše, co od starověkého orientálního vladaře očekáváme. Na druhé straně lze jen těžko najít vládce vysoce rozvinutého starověkého státu, který tyto představy (tedy představy o monarchovi s absolutní mocí) naplňuje méně než chetitský král. Tato skutečnost je zajímavá i vzhledem k shodnému stupni vývoje obou státních útvarů a ke geografické blízkosti, což jsou aspekty, jež by měly vést spíše ke shodám než k odlišnostem.Cílem publikace je zachytit komplexně pozici starověkého panovníka obou zvolených státních útvarů, zejména ve vztahu k moci zákonodárné, výkonné a soudní. Práce vychází nejen z oficiálních dokumentů proklamujících žádoucí stav, ale využívá i prameny soukromého charakteru, tedy dokumenty odrážející každodenní praxi: právě ty dokreslují, jak vypadala skutečnost, která se samozřejmě mohla od žádoucího stavu značně lišit.
