Die Radierung, deren Ursprünge als Tiefdrucktechnik am Beginn des 16. Jahrhunderts liegen, entfaltet ihre volle Pracht im 17. Jahrhundert. Berühmte Stecher wie Albrecht Dürer hatten die Radierung als die dem Kupferstich unterlegene Technik verworfen, ein Jahrhundert später erlebt sie ihre barocke Blüte. Ihren wenngleich späten Erfolg verdankt die Radiertechnik der Freiheit der Linie. Anders als in der mühsamen Manier des Kupferstichs kann die Hand des Künstlers oder der Künstlerin die Zeichnung auf der Radierplatte spielerisch leicht umsetzen. Der Katalog gewährt faszinierende Einblicke in die Arbeitsprozesse und Ästhetik barocker Druckgrafik. Im Zentrum der Betrachtung stehen die Werke dreier Künstler, die sich in der Radiertechnik besonders hervorgetan haben: Jacques Callot, Stefano della Bella und Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione. Panslávi s erbom

Dva unikátne a bizarné ľudské osudy reprezentované dvoma šľachticmi – barónom Gregorom Friesenhofom (1840 – 1913) a kniežaťom Liviom Odescalchim (1863 – 1938). Delila ich jedna generácia, niekoľko stupňov na aristokratickom rebríčku a ich celoživotné záujmy. Pre jedného to bolo poľnohospodárstvo a meteorológia v tom najširšom zmysle slova, pre druhého skôr umenie, veda a politika. Mali však aj veľa spoločného. Obaja boli svojím pôvodom cudzincami, ich sídla delilo len čosi cez 10 kilometrov, stali sa bielymi vranami vo svojích rodinách, mnohí ich mali za bláznov a svojimi životnými osudmi si viackrát skrížili cesty. Nakoniec ich spojil vzťah k slovenskému prostrediu a k slovenskému národnopolitickému hnutiu. Friesenhof bol členom výboru Matice slovenskej, dopisovateľom do slovenskej tlače a dušou unikátneho hospodárskeho spolku s tolerantným postojom k slovenským roľníkom a ich záujmom. Odescalchi mal kontakty so slovenskými politikmi, stál na čele prevratu v regióne v roku 1918, organizoval slovenskú šľachtu v prospech Československej republiky a bol v úzkom vzťahu s Maticou slovenskou. Životné osudy oboch osobností spolu s pôvodom a rodinným prostredím, ako aj regionálnym i celoslovenským zakotvením, vytvárajú príbehy, ktoré by človek nevymyslel a ktoré mohli „stvoriť“ len dejiny vo svojej jedinečnosti a pestrosti.Prof. PhDr. Roman Holec, DrSc. (1959, Bratislava), zaoberá sa dejinami „dlhého“ 19. storočia, jeho špecializáciou sú hospodárske a sociálne dejiny, v súčasnosti najmä dejiny šľachty a environmentálna história. Je autorom 17 samostatných knižných titulov, spoluautorom vyše desiatich syntéz a takmer dvoch stoviek vedeckých štúdií publikovaných v 15 krajinách sveta. Študoval na Filozofickej fakulte UK v Bratislave odbor slovenčina-dejepis. Pracuje na Historickom ústave SAV, je profesorom histórie na Katedre slovenských dejín Filozofickej fakulty UK.
