Publikace je vůbec prvním komentářem k zákonu č. 256/2001 Sb., o pohřebnictví, a zákonu č. 122/2004 Sb., o válečných hrobech a pietních místech. Kniha obsahuje praktický výklad zákona, tj. platného práva, i vhodná další doporučení pro praxi, shrnuje nejdůležitější judikaturu Ústavního soudu, Nejvyššího správního soudu a dalších soudů a cituje také technické normy ČSN. Jak autoři na několika místech upozorňují, právní regulace pohřebnictví je velmi složitá – střetává se v ní právo soukromé (např. nájemní vztahy k hrobovému místu, dědictví) s právem veřejným, zejména správním. Proto výklad obsahuje řadu zasvěcených přesahů do souvisejících právních odvětví – stavebního práva (např. ochranná pásma pohřebišť), zdravotnického práva (např. provádění pitev), práva ústavního (např. ochrana osobnosti, důstojnosti a piety) i práva trestního (např. omezení při podezření na spáchání trestného činu). Zejména v případě zákona o válečných hrobech jsou přehledně vyloženy také související mezinárodní smlouvy, kterými je Česká republika vázána. Jasný, srozumitelný výklad ocení zejména zaměstnanci obcí a měst, provozovatelé pohřebišť, pohřebních služeb a krematorií i zaměstnanci příslušných ministerstev, kterých se oblast pohřebnictví dotýká – a to nejen Ministerstva pro místní rozvoj, ale např. i Ministerstva zdravotnictví.
